For many years now I’ve had an addiction to… stationery – hah, not alcohol like some would believe by my Twitter and Facebook status updates. I’ve always been attracted by notebooks, folders and pens. Paperchase is my favourite place to get a fix. Most of the time I don’t buy anything but just browsing is fun. I have many old notebooks containing list after list of things to do or remember. At home I still use one to remind me of many things like pick up dry cleaning to ironing, otherwise I’ll get stuck doing more exciting things. At work I still have a large notebook for my things to do. Even with today’s technology I still like writing a list and crossing off items when done. Feels like I’ve actually achieved something.
Getting my iPod touch with it’s “notes” didn’t really change my habits – just another place to create a list. I also still like to write ideas or notes down on pieces of paper especially at work – on post-it notes, corners of a printed document (normally from a website) or on my notebook. I’m also rather good at doodling and my notebooks have quite a few of these. With my notebooks (usually the ones I have a home) I always pick a cover that is bright and has a cheery pattern. But with all new notebooks I hate writing on the first page as this seems, to me anyway, ruin its crispy freshness about them. After a couple of lists written down though I don’t care how ruined they get, they get a nice used look about them. My notebook at work is now coming to an end so a trip to Paperchase might be in order to see what funky notebook I can purchase.
